Ballasts (HID Power Packs)
A ballast (sometimes referred to as grow-light ‘control gear’) is a special type of power-pack
required for the operation of HID
lighting. It provides the necessary electrical current to run the grow-lamp, and to ignite
the lamp when it is initially switched on.
All of our HID ballasts are remote (external) type ballasts, and are specifically designed for horticultural use (plant lighting) in an indoor environment.
All of these ballasts are suitable for use with
both SON and HPI compatible HID lamps—all of the High Pressure Sodium (HPS) and Metal Halide (MH) grow-lamps that we stock are of these types.
Note: Ballasts must only be used with lamps of matching wattage, otherwise damage to equipment will occur.
Safe & Easy
The HID lighting ballasts we offer are all made in the UK, manufactured to BSI standards and are fully CE compliant.
All units are backed by a full manufacturer’s guarantee.
As well as being high quality, safe and reliable, these HID ballast units are also quiet and efficient.
All ballast units are supplied ready to simply plug-in and use immediately, requiring no extra wiring.
Our ballasts all feature a standard IEC connector to plug in to the power cable of your reflector.
Note: If you intend to use a timer to control the on-off operation of your HID grow-light(s),
you must use a relay or contactor to perform the ‘switching’.
Failure to do so will eventually result in timer failure—a potential electrical hazard—due to the high power requirements of HID lighting equipment.
